I have the opposite point of view. I bought the 85 1.2 in December then decided to add the 50 1.2 about a week ago. I prefer the punched in look of the 85,however the 50 has it’s unique application as well. Both lenses are absolutely awesome delivering excellent image quality. I am considering adding the 135 1.8 as well even though I have the RF 135 2.8.

The real issue with the GF55 is that when you compare it to the GF80, shooting the same portrait scene, you'll notice something odd. When the overall brightness in other dark areas is the same in both photos, the face in the GF55 shot is noticeably brighter. Many people don’t understand what this means or why it happens. Here's the truth: the camera adjusts exposure based on the dark areas in the photo. So, with the same exposure time, the dark areas in GF55 photos are underexposed. This is because the GF55 uses ED materials like S-NBH58 and H-ZLaF90, which have lower light transmittance in the 500-400nm range compared to the Esfpl-55 used in the GF80. Specifically, S-NBH58 has a 1-6% reduction and H-ZLaF90 has a 4.4-41.5% reduction in this low-frequency light range. With two pieces of S-NBH58 in the GF55, the result is a significant drop in light transmittance and a lack of saturation in the low-frequency light (typically the bluish-purple diffuse light in dark areas). When the camera tries to adjust for proper exposure in dark areas by increasing the exposure time for the GF55, the bright areas, like the face, end up overexposed. If you decide to expose for the face and let the dark areas be underexposed, then try to correct the dark areas in post-processing software like Lightroom, you'll find the dark areas have a noticeable lack of saturation. This is due to the limited color information that the ED materials in the GF55 can capture. In simple terms, although the GF55 is a prime lens, the ED glass materials used make its color performance similar to a 70-200mm zoom lens with over 16 elements. It has sharpness but lacks the color quality you'd expect from a prime lens. Basically, a lens with this level of light transmission loss isn’t suitable for portrait photography.

It's silly to say that one shouldn't buy a given lens unless it's going to be used for paid work. If one uses a 600mm f4 to take pictures of birds, is that lens too big and expensive? Should one buy the new iPhone as a personal accessory? They're very expensive, and the old iPhone works fine... it's OK to buy a thing for the pleasure of using it.

Any gfx is worth every penny when it comes to photo quality, i shoot with a 50r and the image quality is just out of this world. You can tell directly it was shot on a medium format. Getting the 100 II in the coming days..

RF is a beast .. it is my workhorse. I have already shot over 200 assignments with it since having it. AMAZING

Honestly, you shoot an 50 1.2 at f3.2 alsongside the 24-70 2.8, why Not relying on the 24-70 alone (capable of Shooting at 50 f 3.2) in Addition with the 85 1.2 which you use or alternatively an 135 or 70-200 or a 100 macro? Nice Photos though. What ever gets the Job done I guess.

Love your photos! I see that the Day by Day preset has some film grain applied in lightroom. Do you keep that film grain, in addition to the grain that you get from the TAP Photoshop action? I'm considering getting those and currently use presets that also already have grain. Thank you!

Hi thanks for the video, very interesting topic. Although I was also out for best light sensivity and flexibiltiy I think you nailed it. I think the 24-70 f2.8 will be better for my demand. Smaller form factor, image stabilzation are an additional plus. But I will have a closer look in a shop or loan both for a couple of days and a prime lense with ~ f/1.2. Then something regarding the background music. Sorry .. the knocking noise in the background drove me crazy. 1st I thought something is knocking somewhere close to my desk. Then I recognized it is your backgroud music or something which you recorded while speaking. Also the bass from the 2nd background track also brings too much unrest into the otherwise fantastic video through the pumping and a certain “mute” effect to the total volume. So may I suggest to be careful with the choice of music ? ;-) Otherwise many thanks for your kind efforts.

Hi! This is my first time buying a camera + lenses and im really struggling with the decision. I’m mostly a fashion and beauty photographer, and I want to specialize in studio photography but also in portraits outside. Would you say this is a good lens for me? It is a shame that the RF 70-200mm f2.8 lens is NOT compatible with a 1.4 teleconverter. It is NOT an internal zoom lens as the lens barrel extends when zooming. I used the EF 70-200mm f2.8 for at least 17 years & never had an issue with it.

The secondary shooting content is street photography or portrait photos. Love your reviewing style, but could you leave the music off in the background as I have a hearing issue which make it near impossible to hear over background sound, and the music is also too distracting. I kept rewinding to try and catch what was said, so took a long time to get through and due to all the rewinding, interrupted too much to take in all the information.
